2012 Annual Exhibition gets underway
The 74th annual Agricultural Exhibition was declared officially open today by Acting Premier Derrick Burgess.Hundreds of people turned out for the first day of the three day event under bright sunny skies to find the grounds in immaculate condition.Mr Burgess noted in his opening remarks that the show has a legend for bringing rain on at least one day, but "not this year".There is also a record 4,000 entries which Mr Burgess described as an "incredible community effort".The theme this year is "Agriculture Past, Present, Future".Public Works Minister Michael Weeks said: "We are hoping to revive Bermuda's farming tradition, right down to square-yard gardening."And he asked for a "big round of applause" for Parks Department employees who "work tirelessly to make this show a success every year".The first set of prizes were presented by Governor Sir Richard Gozney, followed by Troika, the first entertainment act to take centre stage in the main ring this year.* Click here for more pictures.* If you want to share your 'Ag Show' pictures and videos send them to jdeacon@royalgazette.bm
