Senior seeks justice after pedestrian crossing accident

A 67-year-old woman hit by a motorcycle as she walked along a pedestrian crossing is hoping justice will be served.The senior citizen’s leg was broken in two places and two of her ribs were fractured on January 27.She spent four weeks recuperating in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but said she has yet to hear anything from police investigating the accident.Officers yesterday told The Royal Gazette that a 16-year-old Paget resident is expected to appear in court on charges soon.The Hamilton Parish woman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was on the pedestrian crossing outside Masters Ltd on Dundonald Street when she was hit around 1.45pm.She and the teenaged boy on the motorcycle were both taken to hospital; the rider was released after treatment in the Emergency Room.“All I want to know is who did this to me,” she said. “I now have a rod in my leg for the rest of my life.”The senior sustained a number of injuries which she claims still bother her to this day.“My left leg was broken in two places which required surgery for a rod to be implanted from my knee; I fractured two ribs, I had a splintered wrist and both of my elbows were punctured,” she said.“My right leg was also injured and my ankle. Nevermind the lacerations on my forehead, bruised fingers, a grazed pinky toe and whiplash. I remember the accident, I remember the bike hitting me. I was leaving Masters to cross the street to get to my car.”The woman said an officer spoke with her at the hospital on the day the accident occurred and a police accident report was left in her mailbox last week.“To this day I haven’t heard anything on the investigation or the young man who injured me. I have yet to hear anything official from the police.”When contacted by this newspaper, a police spokesman confirmed that the investigation has been completed and charges are pending.Asked if police had informed the accident victim of this, the spokesman said: “I’ll look into that.”The senior resident said she is grateful for Government healthcare plan FutureCare as her hospital bill came to $31,015.However the accident has affected her ability to work as a taxi driver and she has lost income due to the accident and the after-effects.Contacted by this newspaper yesterday and told that charges are pending against the rider she said: “I’m happy to hear that and I still want to know who this young man is who did this to me.“I want to be there in court see this young man, and I expect to be notified by the police.”
