Hospital denies teen who died suddenly was turned away from Emergency dept

The Coroner’s office is expected to investigate the sudden death of 12-year-old Rodrica Campbell, who died on Monday evening. The Bermuda Hospitals Board confirmed Rodrica’s death on Tuesday, but yesterday refuted media claims that she had been turned away from the emergency department. In a statement released yesterday, the BHB said: “Claims that a young patient was turned away from the Emergency Department before later being admitted are completely unfounded.“This patient was not seen at the hospital or the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre prior to her admission on 2 June, at which time she was promptly admitted to the ICU and provided with appropriate care.“BHB would like to assure the public that no one is turned away when seeking medical attention at the Emergency Department or the Urgent Care Centre. All patients are seen, treated and either discharged or admitted.”The BHB would not provide details of Rodrica’s passing, citing patient confidentiality, but it is understood she was suffering from a pneumonia-related illness.Because her death was sudden, the case will be referred to the Coroner’s office, who will investigate the matter.Rodrica is survived by her mother, Conchita, and her siblings, Hernico, Jason, Tiffany, Zaire and twin Ronica. Funeral announcements will be announced at a later date.
