Gazette reporter named journalist of the year
The Royal Gazette’s political reporter Ayo Johnson has been named Journalist of the Year in The Bermudian magazine.The magazine said Mr Johnson’s “distinctive voice is heard each morning when Bermudians open The Royal Gazette and read about the local political scene”.It added: “Journalist Ayo Johnson is reliable, giving us the latest news in a straightforward manner and, let’s face it, dependability is hard to come by in the political arena.”Mr Johnson joined The Royal Gazette last year, having worked for the newspaper previously.He won the accolade in the People and Places 2012 section of the Best of Bermuda Awards, which are in their 22nd year.The Bermudian recognised almost 200 local shops, restaurants, people and places this year.Attorney General Kim Wilson was named Most Effective Politician for the second year running, as well as Pit Bull Politician.Shadow Finance Minister Bob Richards was named Shadow Minister in the Limelight.The judges chose the formation of the One Bermuda Alliance as the Political Coup of the Year, while Walter Roban’s resignation from Cabinet was the Political Goof.Useful website: www.thebermudian.com/bestofbermudaawards.
