Man accused of handling ammunition walks free

A Pembroke man accused of handling ammunition had his charges dismissed in Magistrates’ Court.Julian Washington, 22, was remanded last month on charges he handled a 0.45 calibre cartridge on or about January 8 in Pembroke.Mr Washington was not required to plea as the charge was indictable. However following a preliminary inquiry, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner dismissed the charge citing a lack of evidence.“Having heard counsel for the Crown and having heard counsel for the defendant in relation to evidence before the court, on evidence submitted to the court pursuant to Section 10 of the Individual Offences Act, I am of the view that no reasonable jury could convict on such evidence,” he said. I rule that there is no case for the defendant to answer.”
