Post tropical cyclone Debby has lost its punch, but she’s expected to bring heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms to the local area later tonight.Duty Forecaster at the Bermuda Weather Service, Jeff Torgeson said: “Debby has basically lost its tropical characteristics for the moment. In other words it has become somewhat incorporated within a broad frontal band and this frontal band has given us a few days of clouds and showers as well as our strengthened winds.”Mr Torgeson added: “We expect to see the frontal boundary remaining to our near north over the next couple of days. At the same time Debby is forecast to move along that boundary in our direction,” he said.At press time last night, Debby “was forecast to be to the NW of Bermuda by about 120 nautical miles late Friday night”.“It will give us pretty much the same conditions that we’ve been experiencing, strong SW winds with possible gale force gusts up to 35 knots and shower activity. We should have occasional rain showers and possible isolated thunderstorms starting Thursday night, with variably rainy conditions until Saturday morning,” said Mr Torgeson.“We definitely need the rain at this point we’re still eight inches below normal for the year, so far this year we have had 17.86 inches, the normal is 26.08 inches,” he added.
