Man dies in bike crash

Police examine a motorcycle cycle at the scene of a road fatality on Paynters Road in Hamilton Parish in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A Paget man who drove over an embankment in an early morning traffic accident died yesterday from his injuries.A police spokesman said officers and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident in near Paynters Road in Hamilton Parish at around 2am.“It appears that a motorcycle was travelling along South Road when it went over an embankment,” the spokesman said. “The rider, a 33-year-old Paget man, was seriously injured as a result.“The victim was given CPR at the scene before being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.“However, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.Chairman of the Road Safety Council Carlton Crockwell St said yesterday: “It is sad that another life has been lost to our Bermuda roads. My heart goes out to the family.”The death is the third on Bermuda’s roads this year.American visitor Michael Lancelotta, 48, lost his life in February after his rental cycle collided with a water truck in St George’s.And Joseph Footit, a 37-year-old visitor for London, UK, died last month after the rental cycle he was riding collided with a car on Harbour Road in Paget.Sunday’s accident was one of two serious traffic incidents that took place over the weekend.At around 2.30am on Saturday, first responders attended a single vehicle collision on Middle Road in Southampton.It appears that a 32-year-old Southampton man was riding a motorcycle when he struck a roadside embankment, suffering serious injuries.As of last night, the man remained in the intensive care unit in stable condition.
