New Tax Commissioner appointed
The Ministry of Finance has announced that Lucia Moreira Peniston has been appointed as the Tax Commissioner.Ms Peniston took up her post on Monday.A Ministry of Finance spokeswoman described her as “a qualified Bermudian accountant who is no stranger to the civil service”.Ms Peniston started her Government career in April 2000 as a Management Accountant with the department of Internal Audit. Over the next seven years, she progressed through the ranks to Assistant Accountant General.The spokeswoman said: “During her time with the Accountant General’s Department she was directly involved in fiscal duties such as financial reporting, cash management, investments, compensation and benefits.“During the past four years, she indulged her passion for teaching and accounting as a Bermuda College Accounting Lecturer. In addition to her teaching role, Ms Peniston was also a partner in a small accounting firm and served as Chair of the Price Control Commission from July 2011 to May 2012.”Ms Peniston received her Certified Management Accountant Designation in 1997 from the Society of Management Accountants of Nova Scotia.
