Man in hospital after falling from bar balcony

A young man was rushed to hospital late last night after falling from the balcony of Cafe Cairo on Front Street.The street was busy with Fourth of July revellers at the time.A worker at the popular bar and restaurant said the man appeared to climb from the balcony onto ironwork framing the entrance to the next door alleyway around 11.30pm.“Then he fell down. An ambulance came promptly. He was conscious and breathing but his eyes were closed and he was in pain,” reported the man.A Police spokesman issued the following statement today:"It appears that a man had attempted to climb on to a structure in the area but in the process fell to the pavement, injuring himself."The victim, a 22-year-old Southampton man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and later released. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing."
