Two Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships in port
Two British Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships Argus and Fort Rosalie arrived in local waters yesterday.This marks “first port of call during this deployment for the final stop before heading back to the UK for Fort Rosalie”.According to a spokesman from the Deputy Governor’s Office, both vessels are part of the North Atlantic Patrol Taskforce which will “provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief support to the UK’s British Overseas Territories and other islands during the Caribbean hurricane season”.RFA Argus is docked alongside in Dockyard where she will remain for two days. The Captains on both vessels met with the Governor and the Premier yesterday.And senior members of the crew of RFA Argus are due to visit the Bermuda Regiment at Warwick Camp and tour the headquarters of the Bermuda Police Service.A tour of the facilities on board the ship for members of the Emergency Measures Organisation including Minister for National Security, Wayne Perinchief later today.RFA Argus is a Primary Casualty Reception Facility most recently stationed in Norfolk, Virginia to help celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812.RFA Fort Rosalie is one of two Fort Class Auxiliary Fleet Support Vessels. Completed in 1978, the ship replenishes warships of the Royal Navy and allied navies with food, stores and ammunition, while underway.RFA Fort Rosalie was previously deployed to Libya to support the Royal Navy during Operation Ellamy and is currently anchored in the Great Sound until Tuesday.
