Injured biker is flown overseas
A 51-year-old Sandys man was airlifted out of Bermuda following a serious road traffic accident on Somerset Road.Westbound traffic was held at a standstill around 6.15pm on Saturday following the collision.A police spokesman said: “A truck towing a trailer with a jet ski as well as a motorcycle and a car were all traveling along Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Heydon Gardens when the jet ski and trailer were in collision with the car and motorcycle.”Traffic was diverted away from the scene while investigators conducted their inquiries. The road was reopened hours later.The rider of the motorcycle was taken to King Edward VII Memorial via ambulance for treatment. When contacted yesterday a spokeswoman confirmed that he was “treated and flown out of Bermuda on Sunday evening”.Police are also investigating the cause of a single-vehicle accident on South Road, in Paget, near the junction with Southcote Road that occurred around 3.55am on Sunday.A police spokesman said: “It appears that a car that was travelling along South Road went over an embankment.”The driver was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, the occupants “reportedly sustained minor injuries”.
