A six-year-old Bermudian has won a spot in national and state pageants in the US after earning multiple awards at the Miss Georgia Princess Pageant.Elisha Edwards earned fourth runner-up in the talent and photogenic competitions of last weekend’s pageant.She also won the Spirit of America award and was recognised for outstanding programme participation.The Miss Georgia Princess Pageant, for girls ages four to six, is linked to Atlanta’s National American Miss Pageant. Although Bermudian, Elisha was able to participate in the pageant because she has been living in Georgia for the past year while her mother attends school there.Elisha placed in the top 50 out of nearly 300 participants at the Atlanta pageant, giving her a spot at the Georgia state finals.She also qualified for the National Pageant at Disney World in November through her runner-up positions in the talent and photogenic competitions.The pageant involved four events: community service, formal wear, personal introduction, and an interview. The talent and photogenic competitions were optional.Elisha performed a two-minute ballet routine for the talent portion of the pageant.Her participation was sponsored by family members and the Bermuda Department of Tourism.The Department of Tourism was able to both support Elisha and market Bermuda by sponsoring a half-page advertisement in the pageant’s magazine. The magazine is handed out to hundreds of people during pageant weekend. According to Elisha’s mother, Lindsay Gaugain, this sponsorship helped Elisha earn the outstanding programme participation award.Elisha and Ms Gaugain have returned to Bermuda for the summer, but will travel back to the United States in mid-August for school.When asked about her favourite part of the pageant, Elisha said: “Everything! Making friends, being on stage, getting my trophies, being in a beautiful dress! Everything!”
