Island dog shows named as Crufts qualifiers

Bermuda Kennel Club dog shows have again been named as qualifying events for the prestigious Crufts dog show in the United Kingdom.Entrants for Crufts are limited to dogs from qualifying shows in different countries around the world. Last year was the first time the BKC’s All Breed International Championship Dog Shows were included on the list.Carole Havercroft, the BKC show chairman, said the qualification encourages more people to come from overseas to show their dogs here.Twenty dogs qualified for Crufts through the 2011 BKC show. For the first time three Bermuda dogs competed at Crufts earlier this year. The 2012 Bermuda Dog Shows will be held on October 20 and 21. Winners of the conformation shows, also known as breed shows, will qualify for Crufts 2013.There will also be licensed obedience trials, in which dogs perform exercises based on handler’s commands, and rally obedience trials, in which dogs complete a course that tests agility and obedience.
