2012 public service bursary award scheme recipients recognised
Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith yesterday presented a host of awards to students furthering their studies.Three people were presented with public service bursary Awards and 11 with professional and technical trainee scheme awards.Nine continuing students and four graduates were also recognised for their efforts.“Today is the day to congratulate your hard work and determination,” Dame Jennifer said at an awards presentation at Fairmont Hamilton Princess. “The fact that you are here today shows that somebody believes in you other than your family, friends and yourself. You are blessed.“You are tomorrow’s leaders. Remember to share your accomplishments, difficulties and trials with those in need of assistance.”The public service bursary award scheme awards up to 15 scholarships annually to Bermudians pursuing postsecondary academic and technical qualifications.The bursaries are valued at $10,000 per annum for a period not exceeding five years.The professional and technical training scheme is aimed at Bermudians interested in working with the public service. Trainees receive practical, work-related and specific academic experiences here and abroad.Professional and technical trainee scheme award recipient Colleen Clacken said of receiving her award: “I’m feeling fantastic.”Added public service bursary award recipient Ricardo Graham-Ward: “I’m happy to get the scholarship. I think that if you work hard you should be rewarded.”
