Tourist dies following road traffic accident
An American tourist hit by a suspected impaired driver while walking along Pitts Bay Road has died.Police confirmed this evening that 58-year-old Alexander Michael Doty of Indiana, died as a result of injuries sustained in Wednesday's collision.The accident took place near Roxdene Lane in Pembroke, around 11pm.Said a Police spokesman: "It appears that Mr Doty was walking on Pitts Bay Road when he was hit by a 27-year-old man travelling on a motorcycle."Police are asking for any witnesses to this collision, especially anyone who may have seen the victim walking along Pitts Bay Road between 10.45pm and 11.10pm."Mr Doty is described as a balding white male of stocky build. He was wearing light-coloured clothing at the time of the accident.Police have reported earlier that the motorcyclist was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.The spokesman continued: "The Bermuda Police Service extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased."Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Walter Jackson of the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
