Man charged with causing tourist’s death

A 23-year-old man was today charged with causing the death of a tourist while driving while impaired.David Thomas of Cheriton Lane, Pembroke, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offence in Magistrates’ Court.The charge stemmed from the road traffic death of 58-year-old Alexander Doty.Mr Doty succumbed to injuries sustained around 11pm last Wednesday when he was struck by a motorcycle while walking along Pitts Bay Road.The accident occurred near the junction with Roxdene Lane, the alleged rider was subsequently arrested.Acting Senior Magistrate Tyrone Chin released Mr Thomas on $20,000 bail with two like sureties. He was ordered to surrender his travel documents and report back to court for mention on August 20.
