US visitor dies after road accident

A US visitor has died after being struck by a suspected impaired driver as he walked along Pitts Bay RoadAlexander Doty, 58, succumbed to injuries sustained at 11pm on Wednesday near the junction with Roxdene Lane. The rider, a 27-year-old man, was subsequently arrested.A faculty member at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Mr Doty was a professor for the Department of Women’s Studies, Communication and Culture, and wrote extensively on the subject of film.He had taught also at Lehigh University, and lectured at Cornell University.Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Pc Walter Jackson of the Roads Policing United, at 295-0011.
