Marine Police HQ is heading west
The Marine Police headquarters is to move from Hamilton to Dockyard in the near future. It was revealed in June that while the Marine Police were given an extension on the lease for their current premises in Barr’s Bay Park, they would be vacating the property in September. At that time, a police spokesman told The Royal Gazette that they were still seeking new premises that would suit their operational needs.Speaking yesterday, a spokesman said: “There is a long term plan in place to move the Police Marine unit to Dockyard. This should be in place in the near future.”The spokesman was unable to comment yesterday on the exact location of the new headquarters, or how the West End location will effect service in the east.“All of these details are being worked on as we speak,” the spokesman said. “When everything is finalised formal notification will be given to the public via the media.”The rising cost of renting the facility had been an issue for the police service. The City of Hamilton said there has been interest in the building currently housing the Marine Police unit, and a request for proposal would be released.
