177 road collisions in 2012
July was the worst month of the year so far for road accidents, according to police statistics released yesterday.However the 177 collisions recorded during the month, which included three fatal accidents, was marginally down on the 185 collisions in July 2011.The previous worst month for collisions in 2012 was April, with 168, followed by March and June, with 163 each.The chief cause of accidents was inattention, which was to blame for 50, with inexperience next with 32.Private cars were involved in 127 accidents, with motorcycles involved in 126.In total, 1,112 crashes took place on Bermuda’s roads from January to July this year, of which 572 caused injury.This compares with 1,176 crashes, including 586 causing injury, for the corresponding period in 2011.
