Tropical Storm a potential threat

Tropical Storm Joyce is now a potential threat to the Island. It is forecast to pass by the Island on Monday, bringing winds and rain.Last night the storm was more than 1,500 nautical miles east-southeast of Bermuda, moving west-northwest at around 15 knots.Winds in the storm were around 35 knots, with gusts reaching 45 knots.By Monday, sustained winds are expected to reach 50 knots, but the National Hurricane Centre said last night there is a 23 percent chance the storm could reach hurricane strength. The Centre said the storm is expected to continue towards the Island, travelling along the south side of a subtropical ridge over the central Atlantic. However on Monday the storm is expected to take a sudden turn to the northeast, away from the Island, as it encounters a break in the ridge.Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to reach hurricane strength as it passes through over Haiti and Cuba before landing in Florida later this week. The storm, however, is not considered to be a threat to Bermuda.
