Premier to be honoured for 'exceptional leadership'
Premier Paula Cox is one of a handful of female leaders to be honoured by the International Women’s Forum.Ms Cox will receive one of the IWF’s Women Who Make a Difference Awards, at a special event in San Francisco in October.The awards are presented each year, in recognition of women around the world “who by way of their example, contributions and exceptional leadership have removed barriers for women’s advancement”.Ms Cox was selected based on her track record as a politician, a spokesperson said.“Premier Cox’s career in government has spanned more than 16 years, having first served in the House of Assembly and quickly ascending through the roles of PLP Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Safety, Minister of Education and Development and Attorney-General…The elected leader of the Progressive Labour Party, she has served as Premier since October 2010. For her incredible leadership, Premier Cox was selected Regional Female Leader of the Year in 2011 and received the Woman of Great Esteem, Award of Excellence from Interfaith Kingdom Ministries in 2012.”Other recipients to be honoured include: Kay Kelley Arnold, vice president of Public Affairs for Entergy Corporation ; Lila Cockrell, Mayor Emeritus of the City of San; Pilar Jurado, soprano and opera composer; Nana Magomola, deputy Ccair of The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust and Denise Morrison, president and CEO of the Campbell Soup Company.The awards will be presented at the IWF's annual World Leadership Conference, which runs October 24 through 26.
