Plans are being considered to move the Hamilton Ferry Terminal.No details as to where the terminal would be moved or what would become of the current site have been disclosed, with the project said to be still in the early discussion stage.A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport did not respond to a request for comment as of press time yesterday.Speaking during the monthly public meeting of the City of Hamilton on Wednesday, Alderman Carlton Simmons said that the Infrastructure, Development and Future Committee put forward a take note motion to support in principle the moving of the Ferry Terminal.“Nothing has passed the discussion stage. We just want to say there is some interest on behalf of the City,” he said.Asked if the initiative came from the City of Hamilton or the Government, Alderman Carlton Simmons said it was “mutual,” coming out of another discussion between the two parties.Councillor Larry Scott sought more information about the move, asking if Government have a solid plan at this stage.“Do they have something in mind?” Mr Scott asked. “Are they going to build Disney World there, for example?”Mr Simmons responded: “At this point in time it’s an idea. We just want to move that the idea in principle is a plan we can get on board with.”Mr Simmons said it would be best for the City to discuss the matter so that members are aware of the situation before deciding if they should give their in principle approval.
