Michael Jackson impersonator ‘g-loves’ Bermuda

MJX wowing the audience on Saturday night at Bermuda Nights in Barr’s Bay Park.

A Michael Jackson impersonator who was detained by Immigration last time he visited Bermuda described his return visit this weekend as “a great success”.MJX entertained tourists and locals at the free Bermuda Nights concert at Barr’s Bay Park, Hamilton, on Saturday. He even gave a special gift to Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert, who came to his rescue during his troubled last visit. The Royal Gazette reported last month how the performer, who never reveals his real name, was left “in shock” after being detained for not having a work permit. He’d been booked to perform at a private birthday party for a group of American guests at the Elbow Beach Hotel. However, he was taken into custody when he arrived at the airport because the party organiser did not realise he needed a permit.MJX was rescued by Mr Furbert, who made arrangements for him to be released so the party could go ahead. The impersonator, from New Jersey, has featured on various US TV shows including TLC’s ‘Four Weddings’ and Bravo’s ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’.Speaking after Saturday’s concert which was arranged by the Bermuda Department of Tourism MJX said: “From the second we entered the country we had an incredible welcome. The Immigration staff and Tourism representative was there to greet us, and it was a very positive experience. The accommodations have been wonderful for my group.“We feel very honoured to have performed at Bermuda Nights, with all the very talented bands and performers. We brought Minister Furbert on stage to present him with an autographed photo and white sequin glove to show our appreciation.“Most of all I enjoyed meeting the Bermudian kids and families. We took a lot of photos after the show. A few of the children even received white sequin gloves that I threw into the audience during the show. I wish I had more to give to each child that asked me for one.”He added: “The crowd and event staff were very warm and friendly. There is definitely a beautiful vibe and culture on this island. The tourists are colourful and you can easily see how Bermuda is a wonderful place to visit and vacation. My dancers fell in love with Bermuda, as it was their first time here, and they enjoyed meeting the local residents. We wish to return someday if not to perform then definitely as tourists. This entire experience for me in Bermuda has been an adventure, and my visit turned out being better than I could have ever planned.”Mr Furbert said of the concert: “It was the largest turn out for Bermuda Nights thus far. The Bermuda entertainment was just great, people danced and had a wonderful time. Bootsie was the MC for the evening and he did a wonderful job involving the tourists, and making them feel at home.“I am also grateful for having MJX return, this time with some dancers. After their performance many younger Bermudians had their picture taken with MJX. I was given a photo and a glove. My nephew who is eight years old has it, and they tell me he has been home trying to do MJX steps.”Mr Fubert thanked the staff of the Bermuda Department of Tourism, who he said, “are the real heroes”.
