Traffic advisory issued for Maj Wheddon’s funeral
The funeral of Regiment Major Christian Wheddon will take place at the Anglican Cathedral in Hamilton this afternoon.A police spokesman warned motorists about of traffic diversions before and during the service and procession.Maj Wheddon, 43, was killed in a road accident in Oxfordshire, England, on September 9, while en route to a military training assignment.His funeral service commences at 2pm, and a police spokesman said yesterday: “No parking of vehicles on Church Street will be allowed between Parliament Street and Burnaby Street, on both sides, from 7am until the funeral procession has left the church.“At 1.15pm, traffic travelling east along Church Street will be diverted at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Burnaby Street.“Traffic will not be allowed to travel east beyond the junction, except those vehicles that are part of the funeral procession.“This will remain in effect until the funeral procession has departed from the Cathedral and has reached the junction of King Street and Church Street.”When the funeral procession leaves the cathedral, traffic will be held at the Parliament, Court Street and King Street junctions with Church Street until the procession has passed.Traffic leaving the MarketPlace grocery store opposite the Cathedral will be allowed to turn left only.There will be further delays and diversions along Middle Road, Warwick around 3.30pm as the procession passes.
