Teenager flown off Island after crash
A teenager has been airlifted overseas for treatment after a three motorcycles collided.Officers were called to the scene of the pile up near Marley Beaches, on South Shore, at 8.15pm on Friday. The road was blocked off for several hours while investigating officers examined the scene.Police spokesman Dwayne Caines confirmed that two motorcycles were travelling east while the third cycle was travelling west when the collision occurred.“Two men were rushed to hospital in serious condition, another set of two individuals were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.”The mangled remains of the cycles involved were strewn across the main road hours after the accident.A 16-year-old was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit after the crash but last night was flown off the Island to the Lahey Clinic in Boston.An 18-year-old was rsaid to be recovering on a general ward in the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.Also, another 16-year-old male as well as an 18-year-old male involved in the collision were treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.The officer in charge of the Roads Policing Unit, Insp Phil Lewis was also at the scene with Inspector Kuhn Evans. Insp Lewis said: “There were three bikes involved in this accident and we want to get the message out to motorists to slow down.“From our initial assessment it obviously seems as though speed and other factors may be involved. I am not sure as yet, once we complete the investigation we will know for sure. But it looks as though initially that speed was a part of it.“We want to get the message out on this holiday weekend is that people need to slow down and we are definitely looking for a safe holiday weekend.”
