King St to be one-way
Part of King Street will become one-way now that a resolution allowing the change has been passed by the City of Hamilton. It limits the use of the street to traffic travelling north on King Street between Front and Reid Streets, and is one of several City street changes, including a traffic light and a stop line on Court Street geared to aiding traffic including tractor trailers to make the turn. The King Street change was given the go-ahead last week during the monthly meeting of the City of Hamilton. After the meeting, a City of Hamilton spokesperson explained: “The intersection at Court and Reid Street is where one of the new PUFFIN traffic lights will be installed. When you drive down Reid Street and reach Court Street, there will be will be three lanes of traffic — one lane will turn left onto Court Street towards Front Street, the second lane will go straight along Reid Street, and the third lane will turn right, and head north along Court Street.“In order to ensure there is a wide enough turning arc for trucks turning left, the stop line on Court Street going north will be pulled back further, which will give them a wide enough angle to turn onto Court Street, heading south.”“The just-approved one-way system on King Street will not go into effect until the changes to the intersection of Reid Street and Court Street have been completed.”Additionally the City of Hamilton discussed putting a power and water station at Number Two Dock, located between the flagpole on Front Street and Number One parking lot. It would be for The Spirit of Bermuda, while the City of Hamilton spokesperson said other vessels would also be able to use the new facility.
