'Robin Hood' thief is unrepentant

An unrepentant “Robin Hood” has been jailed for 30 days after stealing $35 worth of food and liquor from a supermarket, even as staff implored him not to get in trouble.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard that Kevin Webb, 49, of no fixed abode, told police after his arrest: “I am a revolutionary; I am Robin Hood. I steal from the rich and give to the needy. I told Warner I won’t stop, and if you let me out I will do it again.”Mr Warner responded: “You’re quite right. You told me that you were Robin Hood — and I told you I’m the Sheriff of Nottingham.”According to Crown counsel Larissa Burgess, Webb was arrested for taking a $22.50 bottle of rum and $13 worth of food from Miles Market on January 10.Webb was known to security, who contacted the store’s assistant manager after he entered at 6.20pm.The accused ordered food and picked up a bottle of liquor, the court heard, and walked toward the exit with both.According to Ms Burgess, the assistant manager told him: “Kevin, don’t do it”, to which Webb answered: “I will” and left the store. He was arrested by police on Pitt’s Bay Road.Webb is also facing trial on February 1 for cursing at police on October 21.
