A cappella group takes centre stage
The singing voices of 300 students filled the City Hall grounds yesterday afternoon, with help from visiting a cappella group Voces8.The UK troupe is performing at this year’s Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts and used some of its time on the Island to give voice workshops to students at a number of schools. Those efforts culminated in the lunchtime singing performance on the steps of City Hall, under the direction of Voces8.An audience of hundreds crowded around to listen to the performance, with passersby and shoppers also stopping to take in the impressive sight and sound of the massed a cappella group.Voces8 opened last night at City Hall with a programme of classical pieces called A Choral Tapestry. The tempo moves to modern tomorrow and Saturday nights when they pay tribute to British pop artists like the Beatles, David Bowie and Sting as part of The British Invasion.
