Be careful what you ask for
A Pembroke man who interfered with a police search has been fined for obstructing an officer.Magistrates’ Court heard that on Thursday, police had stopped an individual on Court Street for a search when 34-year-old Torray Gibbons approached one of the officers.Gibbons stood next to the officer and shouted: “Leave the f***ing guy alone.”He was told not to interfere, but instead came closer to the officer, leaning on him and shouting the same sentence again. Another officer approached Gibbons, removed him from the area, and arrested him.“You can lock me up for 100 years. I don’t care,” Gibbons said as he was being arrested, “you ain’t getting f***s from me.”Gibbons pleaded guilty to obstructing an officer and apologised, saying he was “very intoxicated” at the time.Asked about his comments regarding being locked up for 100 years, Gibbons said he didn’t mean it.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo responded: “You have to be careful what you ask for”, fining Gibbons $300.
