US flights cancelled due to storm
More than 2,000 mid-Atlantic commercial airline flights were cancelled yesterday - including the American Airline flight to Bermuda from New York - due to bad weather. The flight, which was due to arrive at 8.55pm last night, and the return flight to New York today were cancelled in anticipation of another winter storm in the mid-Atlantic.The latest round of flight cancellations resulted in long delays for air travellers for a second consecutive day amid criticism that the flights were ‘preemptively cancelled’.Since the storm first began affecting flights on Monday, more than 4,350 cancellations have been reported across America.According to published reports cancellations were mounting at delay-prone airports in the northeast US, where high winds and reduced visibility were key factors. Among them were New York’s LaGuadia Airport, JFK, Newark Liberty and Philadelphia.Local passengers bound for New York were advised to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport today.
