Govt presents bills to increase cost of some marine services

The cost of various marine services could increase by around five percent due to legislation tabled in the House of Assembly yesterday.The Marine and Ports Authority (Port Dues) Amendment Regulations 2013 increases port dues by around five percent across the board.Ships under 100m in length previously paid $508, but under the new rates that fee will increase to $533.Ships will also have to pay $12 for every meter over 100m, while they currently pay $11.Light tolls issued to vessels who visit the Island for the purpose of dropping off an injured or ill crew or to collect provisions also saw the associated costs increased by five percent through the Marine Board (Light Tolls) Regulations 2013.The Marine Board (Pilotage Dues) Amendment Regulations 2013 meanwhile increases the rate of dues by five percent.And the Marine Board (Seaborne Services) Amendment Regulations 2013 increased the cost of tendering, offshore towing, salvage or chartering.If approved, the new rates will come into effect on April 1.
