New monthly premium for Govt health insurance rises to $325.84
A bill raising Government’s health insurance premiums has been tabled in the House of Assembly.The Health Insurance (Standard Hospital Benefit) Amendment Regulations 2013 will set a new monthly premium of $325.84.The weekly rate is to be $75.19. In addition, the Mutual Reinsurance Fund will receive $34.88 a month, or $10.05 a week.Standard premiums for those over 65 would rise to $1,303.36 a month. Employers’ premiums would also see a proportional rise.Also tabled was the Bermuda Hospitals Board Amendment, 2013.Government-approved changes to BHB hospital fees under section 13 of the Act will be set by negative resolution procedures, rather than affirmative — meaning that fee changes are subject to Parliamentary debate, rather than the Minister alone.
