BHS wind ensemble starts school day with Easter-themed music

Parents of students at the Bermuda High School for Girls were given a musical treat when they dropped their children off at the school gates yesterday morning.A wind ensemble was on hand to herald the start of Easter celebrations. The group of flautists, saxophonists and clarinettists performed Easter-themed music including ‘In My Easter Bonnet’ and ‘Let’s Go Fly a Kite’ as students and staff filed in at the start of the school day.Wearing their individually designed Easter bonnets, the children also showed off posters they had designed celebrating the religious holiday.Susan Davis-Crockwell, whose daughter Maya is part of the ensemble, said: “It’s wonderful that the children can showcase their talents like this.“It allows arriving parents and teachers an opportunity to see the results of the hard work put in by the children during rehearsals these past few weeks.”“I like listening to all the instruments performing together,’ said Daina Babeckas, one of the saxophonists and a Primary Five student. “I really enjoy the harmony as we perform together.”Jill Colmet, mother of Meagan, one of the flautists, agreed. “I think it’s marvellous listening to the beautiful Easter Music as children arrive in the morning. It is really uplifting.”After the Easter break the children — who have already performed Christmas and Valentine’s Day concerts — will begin preparing for their annual Summer Concert, which takes place at the end of the school year in June.
