Computer glitch almost fixed

Engineers have finally managed to get most of Government’s computer systems up and running, four days after a glitch knocked out the majority of the network. And the successful repairs meant that thousands of civil servants did receive their wages before the end of the month — just. Some salaries were not transferred into bank accounts until after 4.30pm yesterday.According to a Government spokesman, the system crashed on Saturday morning, affecting the airport and Government systems and websites. The malfunction was still affecting computer networks on Monday and yesterday, and as a result, many office staff were unable to work. But last night a Government spokesman said that the malfunction had been largely rectified and normal service had resumed.“ITO has restored most services however some are still down,” the spokesman said.“ITO engineers are currently working with the switch vendor diagnosing the issue. They will continue to work with the vendor through this evening.“The payroll file has been sent to the banks and it will be processed today. HSBC account holders have already been paid and BNTB and Capital G account holders will receive funds today [Tuesday] after 4.30pm.”The spokesman added that the Department of Planning was still experiencing “technical issues”.“As a result, some of the file management functions relating to the processing of applications, such as the printing of building permits, have been affected and the Department is currently unable to print such documents,” the spokesman said.
