Right direction: Warwick Academy's Hannah Marshall's artwork was selected for publishing in superstar boyband One Direction's official book “Where We Are: Our Band Our Story,” which is due to be published by Harper Collins later this year. The book is expected to be a “companion piece to the official One Direction 3-D documentary movie, “This Is Us,” which is due to be released in cinemas worldwide on August 30.

When she saw the opportunity to become a published artist and get her work in a book by superstar boyband One Direction, Warwick Academy student Hannah Marshall didn’t think she stood a chance. But as a huge fan of the British band who have topped the music charts in the UK and US simultaneously she gave it a shot.On May 24, when the publishing company e-mailed her back, she said she was scared to open it and summoned the help of her mother Kim Marshall.Hannah, who has been an art enthusiast since she was very little, is the grand daughter of the late Dr Joseph Marshall, a former principal at Warwick Academy who was also an artist. In an interview with The Royal Gazette, this week’s featured Young Achiever said she is still “very ecstatic and stoked” that she was selected as one out of 42 artists to be published in August.“When I saw it on their website I thought it would be a long shot but I figured I would try anyway. They never said how many people entered but I know it had to be a lot,” she said.“I opened the e-mail with my mom, after seeing the first few words I just started screaming with excitement.”Her mother Ms Marshall described her daughter as “very self-motivated”. She said: “Once she decides that she’s going to do something she put her all into it. I wasn’t surprised when she told me that she was entering an art competition sponsored by One Direction and Harper Collins.“I am so proud that she is one of the 42 winners chosen from around the world and that her artwork will be featured in One Direction’s new book. But more than that, I am just tickled pink for her because she really is a huge One Direction fan,” said Ms Marshall.Asked to describe the work she entered in the competition, Hannah explained that because of the contract she holds, the work actually now belongs to the publishing company.“I can say that I incorporated the Bermuda Flag into a picture with One Direction which is inspired by my Bermuda surroundings. I did it with artist coloured pencils and it took a day or so to do it,” she said.“It’s definitely a big thing to me because tons of people will have this book in their homes. Most of my friends and family members are excited for me as well, each winner gets a free copy but I will be ordering much more for all them.”Asked how it feels to become a published artist so young, she said: “It’s very exciting that I’m going to be published, especially by Harper Collins, which is really big.“I’m absolutely psyched, super excited and really honoured considering how many lives this group has touched around the world. I love their music even more now, I’m a really big fan.“This is a thrill that will last me a lifetime and it was absolutely worth it,” she said. The 13-year-old, who just finished up her final exams last week, said it was the perfect ending to another school year. The official One Direction book “Where We Are: Our Band Our Story,” is due to be published by Harper Collins later this year. The book is expected to be a “companion piece to the official One Direction 3-D documentary movie, “This Is Us,” which is due to be released in cinemas worldwide on August 30.The book is expected to hit shelves in bookstores worldwide on August 27, three days before the film’s debut.
