Bean: OBA has no plan for Bermuda, but we do

Opposition Leader Marc Bean

Opposition leader Marc Bean has promised that the Progressive Labour Party will produce a “vision” to the public that will get Bermudians back to work.Mr Bean was responding to a television address by Premier Craig Cannonier on Monday night in which he stated that Government’s top priority was job creation.“For this Government, the first imperative is to get out-of-work Bermudians back to work, providing once again for their loved ones, growing pay cheques and new opportunities,” the Premier said. The Premier also pointed out that the One Bermuda Alliance, which was swept to power in last December’s general election, had been working against a backdrop of “unprecedented economic challenges, joblessness and violent crime”, but urged the country to “work together” for “the renewal of Bermuda”.Responding to the broadcast yesterday, Mr Bean did not provide a critique of the OBA’s performance since it formed the Government almost seven months ago.But he did accuse the new administration of failing to implement a plan that would address unemployment, and get the economy growing.“Premier Cannonier’s address to the people of Bermuda highlighted the critical need for a plan to get our people back to work that is factual, visionary, pragmatic and practical,” Mr Bean said.“With no plan in place, it is the duty of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party to present a plan that meets that criteria, and that can be implemented as soon as possible.“In our official response to the Premier, we will present our vision for creating jobs, supporting business, expanding opportunity and diversifying our economy. It is our hope, that for the good of all Bermudians, that the OBA embrace our vision, and work with us to get our people working again.”
