Premier attends independence celebrations in Bahamas

Island friends: Prime Minister and Finance Minister of the Bahamas, Perry Chrisitie, and Bermuda's Premier Craig Cannonier at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the independence of the Bahamas this week.

Premier Craig Cannonier is in the Bahamas to celebrate that country’s 40th anniversary of independence.He was invited to attend official ceremonies hosted by Bahamas’ Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Perry Christie.“The Premier has also been in preliminary discussions with the Prime Minister regarding the successes and challenges of their financial model, gaming and concierge services as it relates to the tourism product and business services as well as foreign investment,” a spokeswoman said. “Additionally, the Premier has met with stakeholders from various countries regarding possible business opportunities in India, China and North America.”Opposition Leader Marc Bean and former Premier Dame Jennifer Smith and other MPs were also in attendance, Mr Cannonier said.“Bermuda has close blood ties with Bahamas. It’s important that we recognise our friends and relatives and the commonalities of where we have come. It’s also important that we share strategies for our successes as we chart the way forward.”
