Mayor won’t comment on dock plans
Hamilton mayor Graeme Outerbridge is refusing to speak publicly about controversial plans for the redevelopment of Hamilton’s harbour.Last week The Royal Gazette published detailed plans for the ambitious programme, which include a casino hotel on White’s Island and the removal of the city’s cargo docks, which will be replaced by a theatre complex, art plaza and other amenities. The Corporation of Hamilton has been accused of keeping the plans under wraps, while terms of a signed lease agreement with developer Allied Development Partners, have also not been disclosed.Following publication of the plans last Friday, this newspaper made several attempts to contact Mr Outerbridge to discuss the plans.A spokesman for the Corporation finally replied yesterday, saying: “Mayor Outerbridge will not have an interview with you at this time. Thanks for your request.”
