Misick denies cutting deal with Brits

Former Turks and Caicos Islands Premier Michael Misick

Former Turks and Caicos Premier Michael Misick has rubbished a media report that he is negotiating a plea deal with British and American authorities which would implicate senior politicians in Cayman, Bermuda and Jamaica.According to the TCI Sun, Mr Misick has written to his older brother Philip Misick, to describe the report as a “bunch of bulls**t”.Misick was head of the British Overseas Territory for six years, but left the island chain amid allegations of corruption in 2009.The UK Government dissolved the Cabinet and legislature of the Caribbean country following a corruption inquiry that found “clear signs of political amorality and immaturity”.An international warrant was issued for his arrest and Mr Misick was eventually apprehended in Brazil last December. He is now expected to be sent back to TCI where he is wanted for questioning.Online blog TCI Journal reported on July 29 that Mr Misick, who is facing allegations of corruption, misusing public money and profiting from the sale of government-owned land to developers, was prepared to give evidence against the senior politicians as part of a plea bargain.“I hear the TCI Journal and their British sponsors is up to their old tricks by putting out online a bunch of bull s**t about me,” Mr Misick wrote. “These people are so low and will stoop to anything to try to further destroy me. I am strong in my faith and will never give up no matter what they do.“All I can do is keep on praying and be patient that God will soon deliver me from prison here either home or free here in Brazil.”Philip Misick claimed in an interview with the TCI Sun that the TCI Journal report was part of a plot by the TCI and UK authorities to discredit his brother.“I can tell you as a matter of fact that Mike has not even spoken to any British or American law enforcement authorities and he has not made any plea bargain with anyone. He has not even been approached by them and furthermore he has no information from America that he has done anything wrong in America, so what was printed on the TCI Journal was absolute rubbish and a blatant lie,” he said. “Mike hasn’t spoken to anyone about anything. He can’t even receive or make calls to and from his family. He is concerned about sorting out his extradition process and returning home to the Turks and Caicos Islands.”
