Boulevard receives donation for football development programme

The Boulevard Community Club was presented with a $500 programme donation from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc as a contribution to BCC’s Community Advocate’s programme. The funds were used to purchase footballs.

Part proceeds of a community fundraising event was donated to the Boulevard Community Club to purchase new footballs for the club’s programme.The funds were donated by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity as part of the proceeds raised from the Kappa Alpha PSI fraternity annual charity match in June.In all, the event raised $5,000 to assist various organisations. The donation to Boulevard will be used to support the development of local football for the Central Pembroke Community.Club president Lou Matthews issued a warm thank you to the fraternity for their $500 donation, and for “believing in the Boulevard Community Club.“The interactions with our young men have been powerful and the start of something new for our neighbourhood,” said Dr Matthews.“The funds have helped us to continue to prepare the young men with whom we are committing to developing to leaders and community servants.”The Boulevard/Central Pembroke Community Advocate Program was established earlier this summer to raise funds and support for several strategic community initiatives launched by the club in celebration of its 40th anniversary in the area.The fund will create scholarships for GED completion and college enrolment, football programmes for youth, and service projects at the Victor Scott School field and community.Alpha Phi Alpha president Lloyd Holder said: “This partnership is a consistent with the programmes that the chapter has been involved in our local community for many years.“Our mandate is to make the quality of life better for those in our midst and to help our young men and women in Bermuda live up to their true potential,” he said.“We are honoured to partner with the Boulevard Community Club as they are wonderful advocates for positive change in our community.”Potential donors should contact the club at boulevardcclub@gmail.com.
