Summer students celebrated

More than 20 students were celebrated for completing the Family Centre’s ‘Building my Future’ summer internship and mentoring programme with the support of the Argus Group. The 21 participants were asked to practise their work skills in July and, after demonstrating their skills, earned internship placements in Government officers, utility companies hotels and other businesses during the month of August.Martha Dismont, Executive Director, Family Centre, said the aim of the programme was to address the lack of professional development opportunities for young people which contributes to lagging skill development.“It was amazing to see organisations take the opportunity to have a student on board and to see the impact that was made on a young person’s life,” she said. “Young people are hungry for positive attention, approval and guidance from caring adults. The programme showed students how to stay positively engaged and to gain new skills with support and encouragement.”And Argus Group CEO Alison Hill said the company was pleased to be a part of the initiative aimed at helping young people achieve their goals.
