I spent a lot of time with her as a child.“I enjoyed how the lawyer would have to work hard to understand their client’s story and then try and formulate a legal case,” he said. Now that he’s on the job he said “it’s extremely rewarding” after completing his legal studies at University of Leicester in England. And he expressed warm gratitude and appreciation for the love and support he received from his parents Bruce and Geraldine Swan, of Devonshire, and his sister.“I would like to thank my parents, my family, for all their advice and support through my university education.”He also thanked his new employers for his appointment and allowing him “the opportunity to train with them”.“Friends both in the legal community and out, thank you for giving me words of encouragement and providing me with advice on career choices,” he said.“And I have to say thank you to my new employers for taking me on, especially in light of the current economic climate where jobs are scarce and hard to come by.“It took a certain level of commitment for them to take me on as a new associate,” Mr Swan said.Mr Hodgson, in calling him to the Bermuda Bar, indicated that “he will be a great asset to the firm and the Bermuda Bar generally”.“In the real sense he will be an officer of the Court. He has real character,” Mr Hodgson said. The firm’s director and Head of the Corporate Department, Ms Milligan-Whyte, also extended a warm welcome to Mr Swan and commended him for his dedication and hard work. She noted that Mr Swan successfully earned a BA degree in 2008 in Business Administration from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, his law degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice with Merit from the Leicester Institute of Legal Practice in 2012.Looking back over the road to his new career, he urged young men like him to focus on setting goals for life early in life.He concluded: “Despite all the issues that come along the way, as long as you have your end goal in view you can reach it.”
