A man has been arrested after police launched a manhunt following an assault on a female police sergeant in St George’s yesterday.The officer was assaulted after responding to a call for assistance on Anchorage View Road at around 10.30am.“Upon arrival officers spoke to a 56-year-old male in relation to the incident,” said Inspector David Geraghty. “When they spoke to him he became belligerent and violent. He assaulted one of the officers and made good his escape.”Last night police said a suspect has been tracked down and arrested without incident.“A court appearance is expect in the near future,” a police spokesman said.The assaulted police sergeant was treated for a small laceration to the back of her head and was expected to be released late yesterday.
