Hamilton plan goes on display
A display showing the impact of the City of Hamilton Plan is on view at City Hall this week as the Department of Planning seeks input from the public.
The Department is currently in the process of updating the 2001 plan and has been meeting with property owners about what they want for their properties and their neighbourhoods.
Minister of Planning and Environment Sylvan Richards said: “I encourage members of the public to stop by the travelling display and take a look.
“We are inviting input on topics that are relevant to how the built form and open space looks in the City. Would you like to see taller buildings? Should buildings be allowed to be taller than the Anglican Cathedral? Do you want to see more public art? These are some of the questions that the technical officers are asking people.”
Planning Director Aideen Ratteray-Pryse said previous travelling displays have proven successful and the Department is looking forward to doing more public outreach events.
Department staff spoke to members of the public in Washington Mall last week about what they would like to see in the city. Suggestions ranged from a jogging path along the waterfront and better signage highlighting historical buildings to bringing more horse and carriages to the city.
The display will remain at City Hall until Friday, and from November 19 to November 26 will be in the Washington Mall between 11am and 2pm, with planning staff present to answer questions and gather input.
