Colonial donates $5,000 to typhoon relief fund
Local insurance firm Colonial has donated $5,000 towards the disaster relief fund for the Philippines, which was left devastated by one of the worst typhoons in history last month.
Staff at the company raised $500 during a denim day and the company then added another $4,500.
Colonial Group’s CEO, Alan Peacock said: “What happened in the Philippines was horrific. It was a storm almost without parallel and the devastation was awful. It is a reminder of what could happen closer to home.”
Thousands of people were killed and hundreds are still missing after the typhoon struck the Philippines last month.
It was deadliest typhoon on record.
Island residents have already donated more than $100,000 to a Bermuda Red Cross appeal and on Saturday local musicians will stage the Live BDA Philippines concert on Pier Six, on Front Street, to raise more money.
Mr Peacock added: “There are a substantial number of Filipinos in Bermuda and it is amazing how the Island has rallied round to raise so much money. We are happy to play our part and would encourage people to attend the concert on December 7.”
