Public invited to sign Mandela condolence book
A condolence book in honour of the late Nelson Mandela is now available for signing at the Cabinet Office.
The public can pay their respects by signing the book today through to this Friday between the hours of 10.00am and 4.30pm.
This morning, Premier Craig Cannonier and Deputy Opposition Leader, Derrick Burgess, both wrote messages of tribute to South Africa’s first black president who died at the age of 95 last Thursday.
After the news of his death, tributes poured in from leaders around the world, including those in Bermuda.
Governor George Fergusson referred to the Mr Mandela as a ‘symbol of courage, principle and forgiveness’.
The Premier said the late leader was ‘inspiration to all’, while Opposition leader Marc Bean said Mr Mandela’s death would cause people around the world to reflect on the revered statesman’s ‘profound character’.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was one of the world’s most revered statesmen. He had rarely been seen in public since officially retiring in 2004.
