New Year’s Eve revellers warned not to drink and drive

This Christmas period has passed with “few incidents of violence” and no serious road collisions or fatalities, the Bermuda Police Service said today.

A spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service, assisted by the Bermuda Reserve Police, deployed extra crime prevention patrols throughout the long holiday period and whilst there were some minor incidents, they were swiftly and robustly dealt with.”

But he warned that the holiday season was not over yet and, with New Year’s Eve approaching, urged the public not to drink and drive after the celebrations.

“The New Year’s celebration is one where many consume alcohol. If you drink, please do not drive. Secure the services of a taxi or a designated driver. Our officers will maintain a strong police presence to deter offenders from spoiling the festivities and will respond very quickly to any emergency.

“We urge the public to please do your part too, by letting us know if you see offences being committed or any other suspicious activity.”
