Government announce new Accountant General
The Ministry of Finance confirmed today that Curtis Stovell has been appointed Accountant General, effective April 7.
He replaces Joyce Hayward who quit the post last year after being placed on administrative leave. The post was then filled by Acting Accountant General Roseanne Foy.
Mr. Stovell is a Chartered Accountant with 19 years post-qualification experience. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1990 and went on to work in Toronto for Deloitte & Touche for three years.
On his return to Bermuda, Mr. Stovell worked as an auditor with Ernst & Young.
In 1997 he joined The Bank of Bermuda as an Assistant Vice President in their Corporate Trust division and he subsequently moved on to work at Centre Solutions, where he held positions in Treasury and Deal Restructuring.
Mr Stovell then spent 2003 to 2005 as the Chief Financial Officer of the Aircare Ltd./Mechanical Solutions Ltd. Group.
He has been a Bermuda Civil Servant since 2005, when he assumed the position of Financial Controller for the Department of Airport Operations, in the Ministry of Tourism and Transport. Two years later, he was promoted to his current post of Controller of the Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport.
As the Accountant General, Mr. Stovell will work under the direction of the Financial Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and will be responsible for the overall operational, financial, strategic management and administration of the Accountant General’s Department.
He resides in Sandys Parish with his wife, son and daughter.
