Belco apologises after Warwick homes suffer outages
Unlucky Warwick residents have suffered power outages three times in the last week because of three unrelated technical glitches.
The lights first went out for several hours on February 5, affecting around 500 customers in the Tamarind Vale area.
The outage, which began just before midnight, lasted approximately three-and-a-half hours and was caused by a faulty cable.
On February 7, around 6,400 customers went without power for around 20 minutes after an engine tripped, resulting in load shed.
And in the early hours of yesterday another engine was put out of commission knocking out a circuit that feeds around 4,000 homes.
A Belco spokesman said: “We have been contacted by several Warwick-area customers regarding three outages that affected them in the past week.
“These events were unrelated, but because two of them did involve power generation, our investigation will include a review of operational procedures.
“We are also addressing the load shed list to ensure rotation of parishes affected by generation disturbances.
“We apologise to our Warwick-area customers for the inconvenience caused by these events, and thank them for their patience.”
