Flags at half mast following former Premier’s death
Flags on Government buildings will today fly at half mast to honour former Premier and businessman Sir David Gibbons, who died on Sunday.
And Government announced that flags will also be lowered to half staff on the day of Sir David’s funeral, details of which have yet to be announced.
The news came as the Island’s business world added their voices to tributes to Sir David, a former Minister of Finance and Premier who occupied Cabinet Office between 1977 and 1982.
Chamber of Commerce president Ronald Viera said: “On behalf of the members of the Chambers of Commerce, I extend my condolences to the family of Sir David Gibbons.
“Sir David’s contributions to Bermuda are many but as a former Premier and Minister of Finance, he will be remembered for laying the foundation for the Island’s economic success over a period of many years.
“Apart from his involvement in Government, Sir David was one of Bermuda’s leading businessmen and a past president of the Chamber.
“We join the rest of the Bermuda community in mourning the loss of a great statesman.”
